Use OceanToken in goose

goose runs on OceanToken through a custom provider: one JSON file that gives goose the base URL, the name of the variable that holds your key, and a list of models. OceanToken publishes that file at https://docs.oceantoken.ai/goose/oceantoken.json. It contains no key.

These steps were tested on 2026-10-19 with the goose CLI 1.54.0: every model in the table below wrote and ran a small program with goose's file and shell tools.

Before you start

Create an API key for goose and give it a Credit limit. An agent sends many requests, and the limit caps what this key can spend. See Before you start for how to keep the key in an environment variable and check it.

Add the provider file

goose reads custom providers from its custom_providers folder. On macOS and Linux:

mkdir -p ~/.config/goose/custom_providers
curl -fsSL -o ~/.config/goose/custom_providers/oceantoken.json https://docs.oceantoken.ai/goose/oceantoken.json

On Windows the folder is %APPDATA%\Block\goose\config\custom_providers\; save the file there as oceantoken.json.

Download the file again to pick up a newer version.

Use it in the goose CLI

goose reads the key from OCEANTOKEN_API_KEY:

export OCEANTOKEN_API_KEY=sk-...
goose session --provider oceantoken --model deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro

Check the setup without starting a session:

goose run --no-session --provider oceantoken --model deepseek/deepseek-v4-flash -t "Reply with the single word OK"

To make OceanToken the default, run goose configure, choose Configure Providers and then OceanToken, or put these two lines in ~/.config/goose/config.yaml:

GOOSE_PROVIDER: oceantoken
GOOSE_MODEL: deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro

Use it in goose Desktop

The desktop app reads the same folder. After you add the file, restart goose Desktop, open Settings → Models → Configure providers, choose OceanToken and paste your key. goose Desktop keeps the key in your system keychain.

The file lists these models, each tested with goose's tools. Each model's price is on its page on oceantoken.ai, linked from the Price column.

They are a starting list, not a limit. --model takes any text model with tool support from the Models page, written as the page writes it, with the publisher in front.

Costs

Every request goose makes is an ordinary API request: charged to your balance at the model's price and listed in the console under Logs. goose resends a long prompt on every turn, so the Cached input price matters as much as the input price. goose's own cost figures are estimates; the charge for each request is the one in Logs.

Troubleshooting

What you seeWhat to do
missing required key OCEANTOKEN_API_KEYgoose cannot find the key. Export OCEANTOKEN_API_KEY in the shell that runs goose, or enter the key in goose Desktop or goose configure.
Invalid API key. Check the key, or create one in the OceanToken console. The key is wrong, revoked or has a stray space. Set it again, or create a new one.
Unknown model '…'. GET /v1/models lists the models your key can use.Use the model ID exactly as the Models page writes it, with the publisher in front (deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro, not deepseek-v4-pro).
